MR Palomar

Mr Palomar - Italo Calvino I haven't read this one for a while, so I think I'm going to have to read it again. I didn't really understand much of what was going on the first time I read it...

Confessions of a Teen Sleuth: A Parody

Confessions of a Teen Sleuth - Chelsea Cain, Lia Miternique I am currently in the middle of writing a Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys Supermystery with a couple of friends. Having read countless Nancy Drew books in my younger years, I was used to the bad writing and have become fairly good at imitating it. Chelsea Cain has done a great job of duplicating that same tone, but I think she goes a little too far. You're supposed to laugh at Nancy Drew, not feel sorry for her. By the end of the book I felt pity for Nancy Drew. The first half of the book was excellent, but the last half crossed the line.

Emma

Emma - Jane Austen, Fiona Stafford It's always hard to decide which is my favorite Jane Austen novels...but this is probably the one. I think it's because Emma goes through such a transformation from the beginning to the end of the book.

The Sister

The Sister - Poppy Adams Overall, it was an interesting story. It was definitely a page turner--I don't think I would read it again, but it did make you want to keep reading. Some parts of the story were a little far-fetched, but that doesn't make or break a book for me. So...I would say that it is an entertaining novel--not a waste of time to read.

August Folly

August Folly - Angela Mackail Thirkell This is one of the first Angela Thirkell books I read, and I really enjoyed it. All of her books are about normal everyday people, but she finds humor in everything. She is a very charming writer!

The Code Of The Woosters (Everyman Wodehouse)

The Code of the Woosters - P.G. Wodehouse If you're having a bad day, just pick up some Wodehouse...you'll feel better instantly! Very funny...Bertie gets himself into various predicaments, and Jeeves is always there to rescue him. Wodehouse's writing is so witty--always good for a laugh!

Free Food for Millionaires

Free Food for Millionaires - Min Jin Lee Fabulous! All of the characters have so much depth. It's an amazing story--very well written.

Longitude: The True Story of a Lone Genius Who Solved the Greatest Scientific Problem of his Time

Longitude: The True Story of a Lone Genius Who Solved the Greatest Scientific Problem of his Time - Neil Armstrong, Dava Sobel Fascinating book! I never realized that figuring out longitude was such a big problem. There is lots of scientific info in the book, but it's not so technical I couldn't understand it.

When You Are Engulfed in Flames

When You Are Engulfed in Flames - David Sedaris is a hilarious writer. He has a way of turning a normal event into something incredibly funny. My favorite was "What I Learned", about his various fashion mistakes. It will make you laugh out loud!
